2024 Ineos Grenadier

At Ceramic Garage in Modesto, CA, we recently had the opportunity to take on an exciting project: wrapping a 2024 Ineos Grenadier. Known for its rugged off-road capabilities, the Grenadier is an ideal companion for outdoor adventures.

However, this vehicle was in need of a custom look to match its tough persona. Our team at Ceramic Garage stepped in to elevate the Grenadier’s appearance with a full vinyl wrap, adding style while maintaining the durability it’s known for.

About the Ineos Grenadier

The 2024 Ineos Grenadier is built for extreme conditions, from rocky trails to muddy paths. With its boxy, robust design, it brings a blend of old-school adventure vehicle vibes and modern engineering.

It’s a workhorse with a no-nonsense aesthetic, but the beauty of a vinyl wrap is that it lets the owner customize this beast, giving it a unique, eye-catching appearance. And that’s exactly what we did.

Our Vinyl Wrap Installation Process

Surface Preparation:

At Ceramic Garage, we believe that the secret to a flawless vinyl wrap lies in the preparation. Before applying the vinyl, we gave the Grenadier a thorough wash to remove dirt, dust, and contaminants that could affect the adhesion. After washing, we clay-barred the vehicle to ensure an ultra-smooth surface, free from any imperfections like tiny embedded particles or rough spots. This process ensures that the wrap adheres tightly and looks flawless once applied.

Disassembly for Precision:

With a vehicle like the Grenadier, there are a lot of intricate parts, from door handles to lights, vents, and badges. To ensure the wrap is applied seamlessly, we removed some of these elements so we could tuck the vinyl into the crevices without any visible cuts or edges. This gives the wrap a factory-finish look—smooth, continuous, and without the obvious signs of installation that can occur with less thorough jobs.

Vinyl Application:

The Grenadier’s angular body lines and features like the roof rack, large fender flares, and exterior cladding presented a unique challenge. Each piece of vinyl had to be measured, cut, and applied with precision. For larger, flat sections like the doors and hood, we used large sheets of vinyl to avoid any seams. However, areas like the fender flares and bumpers required us to use smaller, more intricately shaped pieces. This allowed us to maintain the wrap’s integrity without overstretching the material, which can compromise its durability.

Heat Shrinking and Stretching:

One of the most critical steps in applying vinyl wrap is ensuring that it adheres perfectly to the vehicle’s curves and contours. For the Grenadier, we used heat guns to gently warm the vinyl in areas that required it to stretch or mold to the shape of the body. This is particularly important on vehicles with sharp angles and complex geometries like the Grenadier. By carefully heating and smoothing the vinyl, we were able to ensure it lay flat against the body, without wrinkles or bubbles.

Tucking and Finishing:

The final touches involved tucking the edges of the vinyl under the vehicle’s panels and around areas like the doors, roof rails, and windows. This step is essential for protecting the edges of the vinyl and making the installation look clean and professional. Any excess material was carefully trimmed, and then we applied heat again to ensure the wrap was fully bonded to the vehicle’s surface.

Challenges We Faced

Wrapping the Ineos Grenadier came with its own set of challenges, largely due to the vehicle’s rugged design. The large fender flares and the roof rack presented obstacles that required extra time and care. We had to carefully cut the vinyl around these areas to ensure a perfect fit while maintaining the vehicle’s rugged look. The angular body lines also required precise attention to avoid any stretching or distortion in the wrap, which could compromise its appearance over time.

Another key challenge was ensuring the wrap’s durability. The Grenadier is built for harsh environments, so we made sure to use high-quality vinyl that can stand up to off-road abuse—rocks, mud, dust, and the elements. Additionally, we applied extra protection to high-impact areas like the front bumper and side skirts to ensure the wrap lasts through rough conditions.
